The demand for surveyors has never been greater and the nationally-recognized, ABET Accredited Surveying and Geomatics Engineering Technology program at Idaho State University offers students a quality education that leads to many career paths:
• Professional Surveyor
• Mapping/Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
• Aerial Lidar Photogrammetry
Surveying and Geomatics Engineering Technology is an exciting program that offers an excellent educational environment with the latest in computers, software and surveying equipment used in the office and outdoors. Program courses and projects utilize modern technologies such; total stations, 3D scanners, satellite technologies, Unmanned Aerial Systems and sonar for mapping, measuring and data processing. You will use the same type of equipment being used by the companies/agencies that hire you.

All students accepted into the 4-year program automatically earn a 2-year degree in Civil Engineering Technology (CET) with no additional coursework required. Students then continue classes for the next two years taking upper division surveying courses to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. We offer small class sizes that emphasize actual project work both in the field and in the office. You will obtain the education, skills and training that you need to succeed.
Online Program Option
The Surveying and Geomatics Engineering Technology Program offers all necessary surveying coursework required for a bachelor of science degree from first year to fourth year levels (1000 – 4000) through online learning. For courses that include a laboratory component, the student's local mentor will be responsible for conducting/supervising the laboratory activities.
For more information about becoming a mentor view the Mentor Agreement.
For Current Survey Technicians
In addition to offering all surveying courses online for those wanting to pursue a four-year degree, the surveying program received a grant to reach out to incumbent survey personnel/survey technicians. This outreach program, known as TRIPOD offers an opportunity for incumbent survey technicians and survey personnel to earn college credits and NSPS Certified Survey Technician certification to advance their career and education in surveying.
